Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Athens public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Casa Nueva planter and ramp accessibility
The commission's Executive Team was scheduled to discuss an email from Casa Nueva about a planter and ramp — potentially an accessibility concern at the downtown co-op restaurant.
Tree bank and Menards nursery partnership
The city's tree bank — funded by developers instead of planting required shade trees — has been strained by a deal letting Menards supply trees in lieu of payment, and those trees arrived in poor condition. The commission wants to shift sourcing to local nurseries and put the per-tree fee (about $230) into code.
CHIP housing repair partnership
Council took the first reading of a 2026–2028 partnership with the Athens County Commissioners to apply for Community Housing Impact and Preservation grant funds, which pay for repairs and painting on low-income residents' homes.
